Yoga Therapy for Teenagers

I attended a Yoga Therapy for Kids workshop last weekend and I learnt not only all the benefits of Yoga but also how you can use Yoga to help children (and adults) with conditions like…
Weight issues
Bed wetting
Healthy digestion
Healthy backs.
I will be incorporating these exercises into my meditation classes for teenagers.

As described in my Zenergy Kids Teacher Training Course Manual… “Yoga correctives are a series of therapeutic exercises that work with the body to bring it back into balance. The aim of corrective exercises is to bring the energy flow back into the meridians and to assist the body in its natural healing process. They correct the functioning of organs, the body systems and correct structural imbalances”.

For example to have a healthy digestive system we need to look at how the Large Intestine functions.

On a metaphysical level our Large Intestine is all about letting go and feeling worthy. You can work with this by understanding that our thoughts do not define who we are, unless we give a thought some energy (more thought) a thought will simply pass through our minds. To help with this you can do simple breathing exercises to help release any unwanted thoughts by closing your eyes, taking in a deep breathe and on your out breathe imagine blowing out that negative thought, out into the universe and away from your mind.

On a physical level our Large Intestine is all about our healthy bacteria levels in our digestive system and also the releasing of waste material. A great way to help with this is to decrease sugars in your diet and increase natural fibres in your diet. To help with the function of the muscles around the large Intestine you can lie on your back with your legs above you and cycle your legs around (forwards and backwards) and to each side – continue this for a few minutes.

Give these tips a go today or you can do them with your children if they are suffering from either the physical or metaphysical side effects of a sluggish Large Intestine.

If you or your child would like more information about my classes, please email me at For a limited time I am also offering a free trial session to both my adult and teenage classes.

To your happiness always,

Beginners Meditation Free Trial

Meditation is a tool that I use everyday in my busy life. It helps to centre me and ground me into a space that I can enjoy the busyness of my life. The more you perform meditation, the easier it becomes and the more you can then integrate it into your life when you first feel stressed or anxious.

Meditation brings you into the NOW, where we can listen to what is happening around us right now, as the past is not happening (again) and the future is not here (yet). In the NOW we can only have influence over what is happening right NOW. By changing your thoughts in the NOW, it will change you perception of the past and alter your anxieties of the future. It is a very powerful and important space to be in. Which is one of the reasons why I love meditation so much.

To do start practicing this in your life today, throughout your day remember to focus on your breathe. Breath in for 3 deep breathes, feeling the breathe as it fills your lungs and stomach with air and then on the release feeing the breathe leave your stomach and lungs. Once you have done this once you can then start to step it up a notch by incorporating a colour into the breathe, with each in breathe imagine you are breathing in a white healing light, filling your body with the white light. Then the next step on from this is to incorporate an emotion / feeling into your breathe. I breathe in peace and love and breathe out resistance and anger (these emotions will vary depending on the your day – so feel free to add any emotion here, just always remember to breathe in the positive emotion and breathe out the negative emotion).

I am now running regular meditation classes on a Tuesday at 12pm, this is a beginners class and almost full (as I like to limit these classes to small numbers to allow for a more intimate setting). Today I would like to offer you a free trial of this class to help you enjoy and live the benefits of meditation in your daily life. If you are interested, please email me at or call me on 0422 011 180 to discuss further.

Remember guys “The soul always knows what to do heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind to listen”.

To your happiness always,

Action, action and more ACTION…

At my ‘Align with your 2015 Dreams’ workshop on the weekend, I was asked “How do I overcome these negative thoughts that keep popping up in my mind, I know what they are yet they continue to keep on coming?”

Action, action and more ACTION was my answer.

Action is what will stop that thought in its track and more you away from it into a more positive place!

For me, this is something that I used to struggle with, because yes I knew why and what my negative thoughts were about, yet they continued on. So now whenever I feel that niggling self-doubt pop up, I take action in my life. It almost feels like I am proving that the self-doubt is a thing of the past and I am moving onto a more empowering future through the action!

This also keeps me away from that ‘poor me’ phase, which I would easily slip into once those negative thoughts arrived and I would relive different examples in my life where I felt like I was not good enough! The emotion would rise within me and I would begin to feel stuck in this phase again…

It is through the action of either a task in my business, putting myself out there in a social situation or simply just getting off the couch!

How can you take ACTION today to move away from your negative thoughts and into an empowered tomorrow?

Which chapter are you?

How can we move on to the next chapter of our lives if we are stuck reliving the old chapters?

When we get caught in the emotion and drama of a past event, our brain cannot distinguish if it is a new or old event, it just relives it as a new one, bringing about more emotion and even physiological changes within our bodies! Think about this logically for a moment, if you are thinking about a past event how can your brain think about the current moment, it is too busy dealing with the emotion of what had happened.

I know I often get caught up in this one and many of the clients I see have the same problem. Clients (and I include myself in this) will come in with many stories about what has happened. This will become the focus and basis of their thoughts and current reactions and actions. It is not the event that we need to pay our attention to, in fact it is the lesson that this event has allowed us to see and learn from so we can grow and become a better person. When we focus on the lesson it allows us to see the event in a more positive light and to then incorporate this learning into our current life.

Logically this seems easy, yet when we fuel the events with emotions it becomes an almost impossible thing to do!
So how can you start to make the first step away from the emotion, is to write down the facts about what happened – logically only with no emotion involved. See it as a third party observer. Read what you have written down and see where the learnings are, always focusing on the facts of the situation. If this fails, then come and see me for a Kinesiology session to get you started on the process!

Remember, “Your don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step”.

Align with your 2015 Dreams

Have you created your vision board for 2015?

Often when we create a vision board, it also stirs many underlying emotions of doubt, fear and anxieties to achieving what we desire. These feelings are expected as we are setting a vision of something that we want to achieve to extend ourselves in ways we did not think were possible.

For me a big one on my vision board is to do big event speaking engagements. This is something I have always dreamed of doing, yet the thought of doing it absouluetly scares me! It brings up all those feelings of not been good enough! Yet in order to achieve this vision, I need to do more than just place a picture of it on my vision board, I need to work through my doubts and fears to allow me to grow and reach my vision. This is something I have found with my clients, that it is often a fear or doubt that holds them back from succeeding at a goal. By understanding what these fears are, we are then able to chip away at them to eliminate them once and for all in our lives.

My popular workshop called ‘Align with your 2015 Dreams’ is back again this year, to register please click here.

The power in the now…..

At my weekly meditation class last week we talked a lot about being in the present moment. This is something that seems to keep on coming up for me lately.

This moment now is what keeps the past alive and what allows the past to continue to infiltrate into our lives.

This moment now is where we feel anxious or worry about the future.

When we look at the present moment with peace and acceptance, then the past will not dictate our present and the future will work itself out.

To quote my meditation teacher..

“Like attracts like, so when we are at peace in the present moment we will attract peace for all future moments”.

How true! We can change the future just by changing our present thoughts – it is very empowering when we think of it in this manner.

My biggest task this week has been to slow down, focus on the present moment and understand why something from the past or future is affecting me right now (when it is not even happening in the present moment). I had a perfect example of this over the weekend. I began to feel overwhelmed and anxious over something that was out of my control (and specifically someone). I needed to take a step away from the emotion that I was feeling and see why it was affecting me right now. I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH was the current reason why it was affecting me! Which was really simple to see once I was able to step in the present moment and see logically what was happening. So instead of reliving the past and worrying about what was going to happen in the future because of this event, I told myself that I was GOOD ENOUGH and I am perfect just as I am in this moment. This is where I put my focus, not on the external event that was causing me angst.

How can you apply this to your life? And where do you allow the past to infiltrate into your present thoughts, actions and reactions.Slow down today and focus on the now. Be present in the now, not in what could of been or what should be.

More Joy, Less Stress

More Joy and less stress is something that we all want in our lives, I know I certainly do! But what is the magic key to creating more joy and letting go of the stress in your life?

The magic key is acceptance and gratitude (alright 2 magic keys!)

Acceptance is around accepting that everything is as it is meant to be, my favourite saying in life is IT IS WHAT IT IS! On my crazy busy days as I am juggling my kids, work and life, I will say this a lot and often drive my kids insane with this saying! To be able to accept that it is what it is, allows us to live in the present moment.

I heard a quote lately that read:

“If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present”. – Lao Tzu

This sums it up perfectly when you are trying to change the past you will feel hopeless, when you are worrying about the future you will feel anxious. It is in the present moment that we feel peace and joy. Focus on what is right now, not what could have been or what should be. The right now is where you can make changes to how you perceive the past and how you influence the future. Be the person you want to be right now.

The second magic key is gratitude. It is huge and can make powerful changes in your life. When we live in gratitude we are appreciative, thankful and happy with exactly what we have. We are not trying to be someone else or to get something else or look a different way. We just are, exactly as we and happy with ourselves.

It is so important that we focus on what we have and be grateful for everything that we do have in our lives. We need to let go of the “if onlys” and focus on what we have right now, in the present moment. Acknowledge all the things in your life (the good and bad) and be grateful for either the learning the bad situation is giving you or the pleasure the good situation is giving you. Coming from a place of gratitude will have a positive effect on your life and your current state of mind!

With these 2 magic keys you can start to unlock a life filled with more joy and less stress.

How are you going to be more accepting and grateful for all things in your life today (the small and big things)?

Until my next blog, enjoy your children.

Time to get organised for Christmas

If your household is anything like mine at the moment, then you will also be feeling the excitement building that Christmas is coming!

I love Christmas and all the joys it brings, spending time with family and friends, surprises and lots of food. With all of this comes a lot of preparation and time needed to get Christmas organised! So I have come up with a list of 7 essential things you can do in the lead up to Christmas to help you focus on the magic of Christmas rather than the stress of getting everything done!

1.       Make a ‘Things to do list’ of all the things that you need to.

For those of you who know me, I love my ‘Things to do lists’, I do them regularly for big projects I am working on and I also do them on a weekly basis for weekly activities – which incorporate my bigger lists. I know they take time to set up, but believe me the feeling of accomplishment you get when you tick things off your lists is worth the extra effort.

2.       Start a present list.

Every year I print off my standard list from my computer (I use Excel for this) with everyone’s name who I need to buy a present for, including family, friends, teachers, kids friends etc. Then I write down next to their name what I will buy. I find this is a great way to keep track of who and what I am buying and then I will then use my present list as my shopping list when I head to the shops. No-one ever gets forgotten!

3.       Use your Junk Mail.

Start to use that never ending supply of Junk Mail which all of our letterboxes are bombarded with at this time of the year to think of ideas for presents, especially for those hard to buy for. Shop smarter, so when you do actually go to the shops you know exactly what you are buying rather than wondering around the shops looking!

4.       Accept that it is crazy busy

I think this is a huge one, we need to accept that this time of the year does get busy with lots of social engagements, cooking and shopping. Accept what it is and what you can or cannot get done. Do not focus on all that you haven’t done, but instead on what you did achieve – even if it was helping your daughter for 1.5 hours to write her school Christmas Cards!

5.       Look after yourself

This one can be a tricky one, especially with all of the social gatherings and copious amounts of food this time of the year brings. Obviously I am not saying don’t go out and enjoy yourself, because that is a major part of the fun of Christmas. What I am saying is when you at home, opt for that healthier option and drink more water to counter balance the food or drink that you enjoyed the night before.

6.       Spread that Christmas Spirit

At times, especially when we are busy we tend to only focus on ourselves and the things we need to do. This Christmas season, take some time out to do something for someone around you who may need a little extra help or just because. Imagine if we all did one thing special for someone in our lives, think about how fantastic it will be for the Spirit of Christmas to grow and extend outwards. And could you also imagine if everyone at the shops let one person in front of them either at a queue or driving, the shopping centre would be filled with happier and less stressed out people!

7.       Have fun and enjoy it

Above all remember it is Christmas and it only comes once a year, enjoy it and spend time with all those you love and cherish. Let go of what you could’ve or should’ve done and just be in the moment of all the magic that Christmas brings.

With all that said, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and all your families a very Happy and Safe Christmas. Enjoy.

Until my next blog, enjoy your children.

Asking for help made easy

Request or Demand

Today I want to share with you something I learnt only last week! I am in the process of completing my Counselling Kinesiology course, and I came across this piece of invaluable information that I had to share (this is one of the reasons why I love what I do so much, because I am always coming across invaluable information and tips)…..

When someone asks you something or you ask someone for something it is just a REQUEST not a DEMAND!

If you are anything like me I often do not like asking for help, I don’t think I ever have. Maybe because I see it as a sign of weakness or putting the other person out. But by changing you perception of the question you are asking and thinking of it as just a request (not a demand) then it feels like it is coming for a more gentle and caring place.. (Not that my requests were ever coming from any other place in the past – it just changes the perception of the way I am asking the question!)

As a fellow parent, we often feel that we need to do it all and be everything for our children. If we ask for help, we often view this as a reflection to the fact that we are not coping with what is going on or that we are not a good enough parent if we cannot cope! How untrue this is in reality. We all need help in everything we do from time to time in our lives. It takes a bigger person to face the fact that they need help and be able to ask for it, rather than a person who behind closed doors is struggling to cope!

I recently had a big example of this when I was in desperate need of help, my daughter had vomited at 7am on the day when I had my big presentation starting at 930am!! I was desperate, I could not cancel my presentation, but I could also not leave my daughter.. So I took my new found advice and called my for help, as a REQUEST! It felt so much easier to come from a place of requesting, it was a much fairer, relaxed and easier way!!

What do you think? Are you like me and hate asking for help? Try it today and start REQUESTING for help rather than DEMANDING for help!

Let me know how you go with it..

Until my next blog, enjoy your children.

Wow – I have just had one of the most amazing experiences of my life! A trip of a lifetime with my husband!!

This trip has reiterated to me how grateful I am for my life and the people I have in my life. To me gratitude is about being appreciative, thankful, noticing those simple pleasures and acknowledging them. It is about living your life in appreciation of everything you have and everything you do! It is a very powerful place to be and such an important place to be!

At times in our busy lives we take people and things in our lives for granted and do not appreciate them for what or who they are. To me this is really important as when you come from a place of gratitude you are happier, less stressed and able to appreciate the beauty in all that life has to offer!

On my recent trip abroad, I have really taken a step away from the hectic life of being a working Mother to my four children, this has given me the opportunity to really see life as a gift, which I cherish and appreciate. I understand fully that at times in our lives, especially when the children are fighting and dinner needs to be cooked and after school activities need to organised, we get caught up in the stress and grind of it all. Next time this happens take a step back and be thankful for having happy and healthy children who are able to enjoy your cooking, do their sporting activities and have siblings to argue with.. Unfortunately there are so many people out there in the world who long for these simple pleasures and stresses…

Upon my return home I am starting a Gratitude Diary – which will be a way that I can write down and formally acknowledge all the things in my life (the good and bad) and be grateful for either the learning the bad situation is giving me or the pleasure the good situation is giving me. I encourage you to do the same, even if it is just a thought every day to be grateful for something or someone in your life. You will see what a positive effect this simple and effective exercise will have on your life and your current state of mind!

Until my next blog, enjoy your children.
